Shop Local This Christmas: Gloucester Rd Lights-up!

Shop Local This Christmas:

Gloucester Rd Lights-up!

Bristol's best loved independent shopping area, Gloucester Road, is to be

illuminated this Christmas for the first time in over ten years.

Through the Gloucester Road Business Improvement District, independent

traders on the street have come together to fund the new festive lights, which will

be lit from this Thursday evening, 19th November 2015 at 5pm. Over £25,000 has been

spent on lights, and there is good potential for additional spending in future years

to increase the lighting display.

One of the Directors, Dawn Clode, who is also a trader on the street, says it's

about time the street was lit up for Christmas.

"Clifton and Broadmead both have lights but until now Gloucester Road has

missed out. This year money from our new traders group is helping to fix that.

We want to make the street as welcoming as possible to shoppers this

Christmas. Our message is be independent this Christmas, shop on Gloucester

Road."

Dawn and the BID Team have encouraged as many shops as possible to open

for late-night shopping, many of them set to give away treats like mince pies.

City of Bristol Brass Band will be appearing on the Promenade from 6.30pm

onwards.

Shoppers also have the chance to take part in one of the competitions being

delivered on Gloucester Road in the run up to Christmas.

  • A free prize draw to win one of three voucher-bundles (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
  • Children’s Christmas Tree poster competition, delivered by and in partnership with the lower Gloucester Road Co-operative in Bishopston.
  • A photo based competition is being run on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. www.facebook.com/gloucesterroadbristol; www.twitter.com/gloucesterroad; www.instagram.com/lovegloucesterroad
  • A window display contest for traders is also happening, to be judged by popular local author Oliver Rigby and Kerry Allen from Bishopston Matters magazine.
Throughout the festive period funds will be raised for the two chosen charities for

2015, North Bristol Food Bank and Julian Trust Night Shelter.

Definite locations for Mince Pies, Mulled Wine and Hot Chestnuts include Halo, and Life and Soul Empowerment.
